1 Recognition of Courses (excerpt from the Study and Examination Regulations of VŠPJ – valid from 30 September 2025)
3. Under paragraph 1, a course may be recognised if it is a compulsory or compulsory elective course in the programme for which recognition is requested. The degree programme director may also decide on the recognition of other courses (e.g., courses completed in a foreign language that are classified as optional at VŠPJ).
4. When applying for recognition of parts of studies completed outside VŠPJ, the student must submit:
a) an appropriate document confirming completion – e.g., a transcript of records, a confirmation of completion, a certificate, or another document corresponding to the nature of the completed part of studies;
b) documentation enabling the assessment of the content and scope of the completed part of studies.
5. The degree programme director may condition the recognition of a course on passing a differential examination or fulfilling other differential requirements. In such a case, the guarantor of the course will appoint an examiner or determine the method of verifying that the differential requirements have been met.
6. State examinations or any of their components cannot be recognised based on previous or concurrent studies.
7. Courses recognised under paragraph 1 are graded with the word “recognised” and are not included in the student’s grade point average. The credit value of each recognised course is awarded in the same amount as the credits assigned to the course taught in the study programme to which the applicant was admitted.
8. The student must submit the application for course recognition electronically, and the required attachments in hard copy must be delivered to the Study Department no later than by the end of the first week of teaching in the semester in which the student intends to count the credits.
9. Conditions for course recognition:
a) The completed parts of studies must not be older than five years as of the date of the application;
b) the content correspondence with the equivalent course in the VŠPJ study programme must be at least 75%;
c) if the completed part of studies was graded, only grades 1 and 2 (grading scale 1–4, where 4 is fail) or grades A, B, C (grading scale A–F, where F is fail) may be recognised;
d) if the course was completed with a credit (zápočet), it may be recognised only if it is completed by a credit in the VŠPJ study programme as well;
e) if the course was completed with an examination graded A–E or 1–3, it may also be recognised if it is completed only by a credit in the VŠPJ study programme.
A more detailed description of the conditions for recognising courses at VŠPJ is provided in the Guideline on the Organisation of Education in Accredited Study Programmes at VŠPJ (MP No. 4/2022).
1. Courses completed in previous studies may be recognised on the basis of a request submitted through the Information System (IS) and supported by all required documents.
2. A student may apply for the recognition of only those courses which they have not successfully completed in their current studies, or which they do not have simultaneously registered in their current timetable.
3. A request for course recognition must be submitted electronically no later than the end of the first teaching week of the semester in which the student intends to have the credits counted.
4. A student may request the recognition of:
a. compulsory and compulsory elective courses completed during previous studies at VŠPJ,
b. compulsory and compulsory elective courses completed during previous studies, typically at another higher education institution,
c. compulsory and compulsory elective courses which are not part of the profiling core of the study programme, completed during previous studies in an accredited educational programme at a higher vocational school or within lifelong learning (courses that form part of the profiling core of the study programme are determined by the degree programme director),
d. the course Professional Placement (odborná praxe) completed in previous studies at VŠPJ,
e. prior professional experience from employment,
f. the foreign language course.
5. The attachments to a request for the recognition of courses completed in previous studies at VŠPJ are the course syllabus and the transcript of records from previous studies at VŠPJ. These attachments are automatically added to the request by the IS based on the designation of the completed course.
6. The attachments to a request for the recognition of courses completed in previous studies outside VŠPJ under Section 6, paragraph 4(b), are the transcript of records (original or certified copy) and the course syllabus, which the student must upload in electronic form to the request in the IS. If the student has the transcript only in printed form, they shall upload a scan to the IS and submit the original to the VŠPJ Study Department within five days of submitting the request. The course concerned must be clearly marked in the transcript.
7. Conditions for the recognition of courses:
a. the courses must have been successfully completed no more than five years prior to the date of submission of the request,
b. the courses must show more than 75% correspondence in content with the course taught at VŠPJ,
c. if the courses were completed with an examination, only grades 1 and 2 (grading scale 1–4, where 4 = fail) or grades A, B, C (grading scale A–F, where F = fail) may be recognised.
8. The attachments to a request for the recognition of the course Professional Placement completed in previous studies at VŠPJ are the results of the previously completed placement, and, where applicable, other documents defined in the IS.
9. The requirements for recognising prior professional experience from employment may differ for individual study programmes/fields and are therefore defined by another VŠPJ regulation.
10. The attachments to a request for the recognition of a foreign language course completed within an accredited educational programme at a higher education institution, a higher vocational school, or within lifelong learning are a justification of the request and documents proving the achieved language education or proficiency level. The recognition conditions are governed by Section 2, paragraph 5.
11. Requests for recognition are decided by the degree programme director who may request the opinion of the course guarantor before making the decision.
12. If the request is granted, the student receives the corresponding number of credits and the assessment “recognised”, once the Decision on Course Recognition has become legally effective and has been uploaded to the Personal Folder in the IS.
13. If the request is not granted, the Decision will be delivered to the student by post to their correspondence address. Once the decision has become legally effective, the student may register the course in their timetable.
14. Information on the status of all recognition requests submitted by the student during their studies at VŠPJ is available in the recognition request history.
